The glass artist Hildur Símonardóttir was born in 1958 in the beautiful Icelandic fishing town of Grindavík on the Reykjanes peninsula. She has been working with glass since 2001.
Hildur has professional qualifications both in Iceland and Denmark in various forms of glass art, silver clay, ceramic art and leather bracelets.
Her work has been displayed in many exhibitions in Iceland, such as the yearly arts and crafts exhibition “ Handverk” in the north of Iceland ,the north Atlantic exhibition Vestnorden art & Crafts and 2012 in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium at Euromart 2012, which is every 6 years.
In 2007 she started designing glass jewelry under the brand name Hidda design. They have enjoyed great success both domestically and internationally.
I am influenced by the contrast in the Icelandic nature, fire and ice, the beautiful colors of the Northern Lights and the character of the Icelandic people.
In my Jewelry I use Dichroic glass and Bullseye glass because the colors are extremely vibrant and full of life. The joy of opening the kiln for the finished product is however the best part of the process.
